The French daily Liberation has reported that Jean-Luc Godard, director of the French Nouvelle Vague, has passed away.
Liberation, citing acquaintances of Godard, reported that Godard had passed away at the age of 91.
Born in a wealthy family in Paris, France on December 3, 1930, director Godard made his debut in 1960 with <Do It Yourself>, which combines innovative camerawork and fragmentary narratives, and led the French film ‘New Wave’ (Nouvelle Vague). Evaluated as one of the directors.
Godard won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival for his 1965 film Alphaville.
French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted on the same day that he was “the most idolatrous of all Nouvelle Vague directors.”
